Istanbul Airport has committed to net zero emissions targets by 2050

The city’s mega airport on the European side promises net zero CO2 emissions by 2050 as part of an initiative by Airport Council International (ACI), which includes 238 airports worldwide, the operating company announced in a statement. The operator IGA said that it continues to work towards sustainable development and that zero emissions commitments are part of it. The “ACI Net Zero 2050” initially started in June 2019 to mobilize airports to combat the climate crisis and reduce their carbon footprint. Several steps have been taken as part of Istanbul Airport’s work to reduce CO2 emissions, including the establishment of an ISO 50001 energy management system, energy efficiency activities, system improvements with energy audits, an ISO 14064 greenhouse gas management system, greenhouse gas calculations, the use of electric vehicles and the establishment of charging stations for electric vehicles.
