Turkey – East Express

After 21 months of involuntary Corona break, the traditional “East Express” from Ankara to Kars is back on the rails. Since December, 12,000 rail enthusiasts have taken the opportunity to travel on the nostalgic train.
The journey with the Turkish “East Express” has enjoyed considerable demand since the nostalgic route of the traditional train was put back into operation. Since the end of December 2021, around 12,000 travelers have used the 1,300-kilometer train route from the capital Ankara to Kars in eastern Anatolia.
From the heart of Turkey, the train traverses wide hilly and rocky landscapes to the Armenian border. The express travels through seven provinces in around 32 hours. The train connection has existed since the 1940s. A train is now leaving Ankara every day at 6 p.m. local time. The trip is offered by the Turkish Railway Company (TCDD).
