Switzerland: Accelerated visa procedure also for Syrian earthquake victims

Switzerland is also making it possible for earthquake victims from Syria to have an accelerated visa procedure. The Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP) has announced fast-track proceedings for people from the earthquake area who have close relatives in Switzerland and have lost their place of residence. Nationality doesn’t matter.

However, the biggest difficulty for the asylum seekers is likely to be obtaining a valid travel document. But Switzerland has no influence on that, for security reasons alone, Switzerland must know who is temporarily entering the country. However, the applications would be given priority by the Swiss representation in Beirut.

Anyone who has relatives in Switzerland can apply for an accelerated visa. According to the SEM, this includes spouses, parents, grandparents, children and minor grandchildren – but not siblings.
