Ankara and London sign billion-dollar contract for railway line

Turkey and Great Britain have signed a 1.2 billion Euro financing agreement for a new railway line in central Anatolia. The amount is intended to support the construction of the new railway line between the province of Kayseri and the small town of Yerköy in the province of Yozgat. High-speed electric transport should be possible on the new railway line in the future.During a meeting at the British Consulate General in Istanbul, British Trade Minister Kemi Badenoch welcomed the agreement as “great evidence” of the good trade relations between the two countries. She was “very pleased” about the financing agreement and spoke of “great progress”.According to Badenoch, the new rail line will also contribute to the expansion of the low-carbon rail network in Turkey. “It will reduce traffic congestion and reduce net carbon emissions on the Yerköy-Kayseri route by over 6,500 tons of CO2 per year,” she said. She added that Turkey, with its large economy and strategic location, offers “tremendous opportunities for British businesses”.
