What is an apostille? How can I get one in Turkey?

In order for public documents to be recognized internationally, they must be certified. However, this procedure usually takes a lot of time. The Hague Apostille was introduced to shorten the authentication process. The so-called Hague Convention has 89 member states.

The apostille certifies the authenticity of a public document, a signature or a stamp. The certification process is called apostille. Since the introduction of the apostille as a form of certification, international document traffic has become significantly easier and faster.

Depending on the individual case, apostolic documents are required for an Ikamet. When it comes to the pension notice, however, this is often difficult. There is a way to do that here in Turkey.

You go to the German consulate in Antalya with the original document and a photocopy. Sometimes there are also meeting days in the municipality of Tosmur / Alanya, these are announced by the consulate at short notice. The consul confirms the correctness of the copy after checking it against the original, with a signature and a stamp.

This signed copy with a stamp must now be translated into Turkish by a sworn interpreter and certified by a notary here.

This certified translation can be apostolated in the governor’s office across from City Hall. (1st floor, sign: “Apostille)
